Bootle
Bootle is a town just outside the city of Liverpool. Part of Lancashire, its coastal location has played a major part in its history, and all manner of port related industries have characterised it over the years.
With a population of just under 80,000, Bootle is certainly a sizable location, and came to prominence in the 19th century thanks to the construction of docks and a railway line to larger surrounding cities. While industrialisation served it well, the town was also popular as resort for wealthier individuals of the time.
It played a big part in the Second World War, particularly as a port for navy battleships, and was also the target of many a Luftwaffe bomb, such was the importance of the waterfront areas. With a tumultuous fortune in the years that followed due the decline of the docks, massive investment has been ploughed into Bootle for regeneration projects.
Some things that put Bootle on the map include some wonderful history buildings like the town hall, a plethora of somewhat famous individuals and the 1993 James Bulger incident. Several different sports clubs exist as well, including Bootle F.C.
