With the backing of the Jeep brand, the Compass (especially the Trailhawk variant) is able to handle various terrains. For the release of the second generation, Jeep was working in partnership with Fiat. The manufacturer decided that it was time to simplify the lineup, but added the off-road-oriented Trailhawk variant with higher ground clearance and cleverly placed skid plates.
The first update for the generation occurred in 2019, with new air intakes in the lower bumper for better cooling. It was also given a more striking appearance. In 2021, another refresh was released with some significant changes to the powertrain, including a plug-in hybrid configuration and some mild styling upgrades.

Jeep wanted to appeal to a broader market beyond those looking to have off-road adventures. The obvious solution was to create a crossover that could hold a family but didn't sacrifice capability. Jeep therefore released the Compass, which was a smaller version of the popular Jeep Cherokee.
A mild refresh arrived in 2011 with some styling upgrades and improved drivetrain options. Getting rid of the previously offered round headlights, the new Compass had the lamps with a horizontal design, similar to the Grand Cherokee. Jeep has a 4xe Plug-In Hybrid that creates a combined 236bhp and offers electric driving of up to 34 miles per charge. There's also a mild e-Hybrid model that uses a 1.5-litre engine to produce 128bhp and return a rating of 49.6mpg and CO2 emissions of 128g/km.
