Jeep wanted to appeal to a broader market beyond those looking to have off-road adventures. The obvious solution was to create a crossover that could hold a family but didn't sacrifice capability. Jeep therefore released the Compass, which was a smaller version of the popular Jeep Cherokee.
A mild refresh arrived in 2011 with some styling upgrades and improved drivetrain options.
