Interior spaceJeep has always been known as a brand that can build off-road vehicles, so it was no surprise when the Compass arrived in 2007 with the same capability. The first update for the generation occurred in 2019, with new air intakes in the lower bumper for better cooling. It was also given a more striking appearance. In 2021, another refresh was released with some significant changes to the powertrain, including a plug-in hybrid configuration and some mild styling upgrades.

Jeep wanted to appeal to a broader market beyond those looking to have off-road adventures. The obvious solution was to create a crossover that could hold a family but didn't sacrifice capability. Jeep therefore released the Compass, which was a smaller version of the popular Jeep Cherokee.
A mild refresh arrived in 2011 with some styling upgrades and improved drivetrain options. Getting rid of the previously offered round headlights, the new Compass had the lamps with a horizontal design, similar to the Grand Cherokee.
