If you're in the market for a stylish drop-top, then a used MINI Convertible is a great choice. It's supremely fun to drive, looks amazing on the road, and offers a smart interior and technology including a connected infotainment system. It's also one of the most affordable convertibles to own, making it a top choice among budget-conscious drivers.

Interior spaceWith the three-door hatch becoming such a popular option, MINI decided to release a Convertible in 2004. New generations were launched in 2009, 2015 and 2021, each bringing with it more style and improved practicality. MINI continues to focus on making it easier to live with while keeping the price reasonable enough for the everyday driver to afford it.
MINI released the S-version across the entire range when the fourth generation was unveiled. The styling is comparable with the Cooper S, including the black grille trim and special air scoops. The A-pillars are slightly raked, doubling as safety arches.
Inside the Convertible, MINI added a 5-inch digital instrument cluster and an 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The new sport bucket seats showcase the sporty feel, while the three-spoke steering wheel has the same design as previous generations.
The new MINI Convertible came in several different variations, such as the John Cooper Works. Minor exterior differences include updated headlights wrapped in chrome rings and a hexagonal radiator grille. A longer wheelbase makes more interior space and a larger boot.
A 2018 refresh brings updated design touches and more standard features. Even the base trim included automatic headlights, Bluetooth and a six-speaker sound system.

The second-generation open-top shared the front design with the hatchback, except that it added a second set of turn signals and a power-assisted folding roof.
Inside the cabin, all four windows could be operated from the centre stack buttons, located directly below the heater controls panel. A 'Big Ben' speedometer is found in the middle, where all passengers can view it, but the tachometer is situated behind the steering wheel for the driver's view only.

The 1.6-litre petrol has proven the most popular among MINI Convertible owners. It's worth noting that JCW models come with the most powerful 227bhp four-cylinder engine. This petrol engine has a 0-62mph time of 6.5 seconds and still earns an efficiency rating of up to 40.9mpg.
The Convertible comes in three models: Cooper, Cooper S and John Cooper Works. Within these models, there are various trims, such as Classic, Sport and Exclusive. The cheapest option is the Classic, but the Exclusive has far more standard features, making it more enjoyable overall. Among owners, the base Cooper model has proven the most popular.
Styling upgrades include larger 18-inch alloy wheels with run-flat tyres and leather sport seats. There's also an optional leather steering wheel and an intelligent adaptive suspension that can make the drive more exciting.
As a convertible, the MINI isn't designed to be an everyday family car. Yet the back seat can accommodate smaller children or luggage, making it an option if an open-air experience is a must-have.
MINI hasn't made a hybrid convertible yet. However, the company did offer a limited run of 150 fully-electric convertibles called the "MINI Electric Convertible" in 2023.
