An important religious site as a consequence, it has also held a market since 1227 on a regular basis. The thing that really puts the city on the map however is the location of Stonehenge, a world renowned historical site, to the north west.

Other notable things in the city include the racecourse, football and rugby clubs, the Odeon cinema and a department store said to be haunted by a ghost.
