Nissan Cube

The Nissan Cube is effectively a box on wheels, but that’s not a bad thing. It’s one of the strangest looking cars on the road, and the most modern ones are actually quite stylish. The unique designs, high quality finish, massively open interior and ease of use make it an in demand mini MPV that’s won legions of fans all over the world.

Released in 1998, the first generation didn’t look like a cube at all, just a regular plain MPV. However this was quickly rectified when the second generation was introduced in 2002, and the improved shape meant a larger interior space, increased levels of practicality and more fun overall. Baring a striking resemblance to Postman Pat’s van, it was quirky for sure. The most recent models continued the success, and featured curvier designs, a larger selection of engines and improved economy. The CVT transmission in particular is a nice asset. With 5 seats and 5 doors, it’s a real choice for families to consider.

There aren’t any other cars that share the Cube’s style, and interestingly the most modern versions were designed to look like the ‘enveloping curves’ found in Jacuzzis. The hot tub mentality clearly works because the Nissan looks striking, bold and very friendly. Inside things are nice and light thanks to the massive panoramic windows, and this makes for no lack of visibility too. Featuring an array of quality materials, the overall interior design is very good indeed. With comfortable seats, a fantastic array of equipment and masses of practicality, this is one seriously functional people carrier underneath the podgy ‘marshmallow’ exterior.

You don’t win any prizes for guessing that this car isn’t very aerodynamic. It’s certainly not made for speed, but rather concentrates on a being as soft and forgiving on the road as possible. The handling is sharp and this makes the Cube easy to manoeuvre around town and in crowded areas like car parks. Decently agile and quite confident on back roads, it’s also nicely settled when cruising on the motorway. A 1.6 litre engine isn’t very powerful, but does the job well and is frugal with fuel too.

To get a great deal on the Cube, buying second hand is by far the best way to go. You’ll pay significantly less and end up with something almost like new anyway. Here at Motors.co.uk there’s a vast selection of used cars for sale to choose from, so whether you’re looking a particular colour or specific gearbox, finding the right second hand Nissan Cube is very simple.

The Nissan Cube is simply a revelation in the mini MPV class. It’s unlike anything else out there in terms of design, and manages to offer hugely competitive levels of practicality and cabin space, as well as a seriously well equipped trim and comfortable seats. Yes it might look like a box on wheels, and yes it’ll stand out in traffic, but that’s exactly why you should get one. Variety of the spice of life after all, so don’t be afraid to express your individuality with this friendly little car.
