Vauxhall Monaro

One of the powerhouses of Vauxhall’s line-up is actually an Australian. Yes the Monaro might sport a British badge, but it’s actually an antipodean from the Holden stable. A big, bruising muscle car, this is one motor that’ll certainly make you cry ‘strewth!’ In all seriousness though, it’s a stunning piece of automotive engineering and doesn’t look to shabby either. If you want to go fast and have fun for a reasonable cost, this is the car to go for!

The Monaro actually began life in 1968 and was exactly how you’d picture a classic muscle car. It’s the third generation however that’s got everyone in a frenzy these days. Produced from 2001 to 2005, the modern Monaro is a thing of beauty and has a beastly V8 engine under the bonnet. It’s ‘back to basics’ motoring in that there isn’t much fancy tech or an array of engineering gizmos to keep it on the road- just a steering wheel, a gear stick and your right foot. Several models have been available, and they all have the same monstrous attitude.

When most people lay eyes on the Vauxhall, ‘wow’ is the first thing that comes out of their mouths. Indeed it’s supremely styled with those big alloy wheels, snorting engine vents and aggressive look. In both 2 door coupe and 4 door saloon models, it’s every bit the Bathurst beast. The cabin is nicely spacious and the high quality materials exude excellence. Comfortable and substantially equipped, it’s actually usable on a daily basis thanks to a big boot and no lack of storage areas. Basically it’s a wonderful environment to climb into, and you relish the opportunity.

Possibly the best thing about the Monaro is the way it drives; a real experience, it’s a put pedal to the metal and burn some rubber animal. A big car by anyone’s standards, it rides smoothly and has an abundance of grip. The steering is precise but overall you don’t get the ‘sharpness’ of some European coupes when it comes to quick changes of direction. The huge V8 engine up front produces mountains of power and is awesome to listen to. This car is like a bull- it’s an absolute destroyer when pushed but most of the time is content to move around in a relaxed and easy pace.

Supremely good value to buy brand new, there are some outrageously good deals in the world of second hand cars for sale. Whether you go for the original Holden or the more ‘Euro-friendly’ Vauxhall, paying less is what it’s all about. is an absolute treasure trove for quality pre owned autos and some major price discounts mean finding a bargain is incredibly easy. With a used Vauxhall Monaro, you’ll get a huge amount of bang for your buck.

The clear fact is that this car puts the fun back into driving, and heading out for a few hours just to get the adrenaline flowing is all part of the experience. A superb performance car, it’s also practical and very spacious. Easy to drive fast with minimal effort, you’ll feel like a motoring magician through and through. One of the best muscular sports coupes around, this is every petrol head’s dream!
