Volkswagen Fox

The Volkswagen Fox is a small city car that’s the cheapest on the German giant’s roster. Despite its diminutive size, it has all the hallmarks of a VW, and that’s why it’s simply an umissable offering in a tightly packed motoring niche. Easy to drive, quite spacious and incredibly cheap to run, if you’re after for something that looks good, keeps to a tight budget and is made by a reputable brand, the Fox is the one to go for.

Released in Europe in 2005, the Fox replaced the popular Lupo because it was able to offer a similar sort of thing for a fraction of the cost; this was understandably good for both customers and the company itself. While the regular model can be bought in 3 and 5 door hatchback versions, there are also some upmarket variants such as the CrossFox mini SUV and SpaceFox mini MPV. Versatility is quite high on the list it seems.

As a baby VW, the Fox is cute and cuddly to look at, with all the features you’d expect from the friendly German brand; the trademark front grille, curvy roofline and pert little back end are all nice and attractive. Even though it’s meant to be the cheapest car in the range, the Fox looks very stylish from the inside. Some funky fabrics liven the place up and overall it’s not at all bad. While there are some signs of cheapness, overall it’s no worse than any other budget friendly auto. A good amount of cabin space, a cool looking centre instrument display and some good kit across several trim levels do it justice. There’s also quite a large boot area which can accommodate shopping or luggage alike.

The Fox is most at home around town where its light and nippy steering really come into its own. Considerably more upmarket to handle than its price tag suggests, the VW has a comfy ride and holds the road quite well. On motorways or back lanes however it’s a bit lacklustre, but would you expect anything else from a mini city car? The available engines are perky and high revving, which makes them perfect for going in and out of traffic on crowded streets but less so elsewhere. The good news is that you won’t have to spend much on fuel as they are very frugal.

With a monstrous selection of used cars for sale, getting your hands on a second hand Volkswagen Fox here at Motors.co.uk is incredible simple and straightforward. All it takes is a few minutes of browsing around and a couple of mouse clicks. Some of the lowest prices around coupled with an unshakable approach to quality means you’ll always be in the presence of an unbeatable deal.

At the end of the day, cheap small cars are something Volkswagen excels at, and the Fox is one of the finest examples you’re likely to see. It’s simply excellent for those people who live in busy areas or want something cheap, cheerful and inexpensive to run. While it might not be the most stylish on the inside, it’s full of character and wants to have fun. That, along with the low price, makes it one of the best.
