The Vauxhall Astra has been on the UK's roads since 1979, and since then there have been six generations of this tried-and-tested popular small family car. Also available as a hatchback, the first Astra Estate could be specified with either three or five doors.

The second generation in 1984 was voted European Car of the Year and lasted on sale for seven years. The third generation estates arrived in 1991, the fourth in 1998.
