Engines and transmissions

Current models offer three petrol engines, all based on the 1.2-litre three-cylinder unit, with the option to choose a five- or six-speed speed manual or eight-speed automatic gearbox. The Vauxhall Corsa-e is also an all-electric variant that's available.

Petrol
  • Base-level 75bhp engine achieves a 0-60 mph time of 13.2 seconds and returns an average of 52.3 mpg.
  • Mid-range 100bhp variant has a turbocharger to achieve 60mph in 9.9 seconds and returns an average 55.4 mpg.
  • Top-of-the-line 130bhp unit hits 60 mph in 8.7 seconds with a return of 51.4 mpg.
Electric
  • There are two available battery and motor combinations of the Corsa-e.
  • With 136bhp, the 50kWh battery option has a range of 222 miles.
  • With 156bhp, the 51kWh battery option has a range of up to 246 miles.
  • Both versions provide instant acceleration and a near-silent driving experience

Practicality

The Vauxhall Corsa is designed primarily for city driving, but there's plenty of space to hold a decent amount cargo provides comfortable seating for 4 passengers.

Interior space
  • Adjustable driver's seat makes it easy to find an ideal position.
  • Top variants receive heated massage seats and Alcantara upholstery.
  • Rear seats are better suited to children.
Boot space
  • 309-litre boot is more than enough for the weekly shop and larger than that offered by the Citroen C3.
  • Slight lip to get over while loading.
  • 60/40 split rear seats makes room for larger items.

Safety

  • 2019 Euro NCAP rating offered four stars.
  • Adult occupant rating hit 84%.
  • Six airbags installed as standard, with lane departure warning systems and rear parking sensors available on recent models.

Technology

  • One or two USB ports depending on model; higher models have a wireless charging pad.

Vauxhall Corsa generations

The Vauxhall Corsa was originally known as the Nova in the early 1980s, but changed names in 1993. In total, the model has been through six generations, with each offering a more modern style and upgraded features. Vauxhall has supplied many powertrains during this time, though most of them have been equipped with a manual transmission.

Sixth Generation (2019 to Present)

The five-door hatchback shares the same underpinnings as the Citroen C3 and Peugeot 208, with a lighter weight than previous variants. Not only does the lower weight help improve efficiency, but it also reduces emissions. There's even an all-electric model with no tailpipe emissions.

The interior is modern, but minimalistic by nature. Because of the small size, the Corsa is fun to drive and easy to manoeuvre around town.

Fifth Generation (2014 to 2019)

Available as a three- or five-door hatchback, the Corsa wasn't much different from previous versions. In 2018, the VXR hot hatch was discontinued, despite having a popular fan base. It was replaced by the GSi, which, while showcasing an aggressive design, had less power.

The Corsa remained a top choice for any driver who wanted to stick to a budget but desired something stylish and well-equipped to drive around town. With so many sold, it's easy to find this generation in the used car market.

The three- and five-door hatchback share underpinnings with the Fiat Punto. Some styling upgrades included new headlamps and an updated front end. A minor facelift in 2010 added a new touchscreen infotainment system and some stylistic modifications.

In 2007, a performance-focused VXR model was released. It included a 189-horsepower 1.6-litre turbocharged engine that took the small car to 62 mph in 7.2 seconds.

Used Vauxhall Corsa FAQ's

Is the Vauxhall Corsa a good car?

The Vauxhall Corsa continues to be a best-seller, mainly because of its affordable cost to buy and run. Additionally, it's both stylish and fun to drive, and interior space is decent enough for a young family.

Why are Vauxhall Corsas so popular?

The main draw of the Corsa is its affordability and value for money. The Corsa can be a lot of fun to drive, especially in the city, but it doesn't always have the best technology and equipment, unless you are looking at a higher trim level.

What is a Vauxhall Corsa Griffin?

The Griffin is a special edition Corsa, and was originally introduced near the end of its production run. It came fitted with a black styling pack that included a black roof and wing mirrors, plus standard kit such as air conditioning, sports-style heated front seats and a heated steering. The newer Griffin models also feature enhanced specification for only a small extra outlay.

Which is the top spec Corsa?

If you're looking for the most luxurious Corsa with the most features, you should seek out the 'Ultimate' versions. These are equipped with front and rear parking sensors, rear parking camera, satellite navigation, heated steering wheel and even heated massage seats. On the outside, you'll find upgraded alloy wheels.

Are there still manual and automatic Corsas?

Yes, you can still find plenty of both manual and automatic Corsas on the used car market. Most petrol models are manual, although there are plenty of automatic versions too, equipped with an 8-speed auto gearbox. All electric versions, known as the Corsa-e, are fully automatic, too.
