The modern Mini has expanded its appeal with a wide range of versions, including: SUV, estate, coupe and convertible.
The Mini Roadster model first appeared in the UK in 2012, and is a soft-top version of the two-door Mini Coupe, with similar performance and specifications. In short, that means it's a premium small car, with exciting sporty handling and a choice of engines ranging from warm performance to out-right sports cars. The JCW model offers a 210bhp output, which takes the little soft-top to a top speed of 147mph, with 0-60mph coming up in just 6.5 seconds.
Note that this is a true two-seater, so if you need to carry occasional rear passengers, the standard Mini Convertible has a 2+2 layout. The Roadster does compensate, however, with a usefully large 240-litre boot.
The agile handling of the small, well-balanced Roadster puts it on a par with sports car rivals like the Mazda MX-5 and Toyota MR2.
The roof is made of sturdy fabric, which helps keep the weight down and the rain out. The powered folding mechanism is excellent - it packs away in just eight seconds.
