The Cayenne was released to add a new dimension for the manufacturer, which previously only made sports cars. A facelift occurred in 2014 with clearer body lines and a sharp styling upgrade. A black plastic shield was swapped for the previous aluminium underbody protection and the manual gearbox was removed.

Starting with the third-generation Cayenne, Porsche shared the platform with the Lamborghini Urus and Bentley Bentayga, while adding more equipment, such as rear-wheel steering that enhanced its turning ratio and cornering speed. In the front, the Cayenne received a new grille design, while the back got a new roof spoiler. An E-Hybrid version was also released at the same time.
