Mazda has earned a reputation for building high-quality SUVs, starting with the CX-5 in 2012. After the success of that model, Mazda decided that it was time to launch the first compact crossover in 2015 – the CX-3. This smaller model was set to compete against the Renault Captur and Nissan Juke, but it didn't make it out of the first generation. Mazda decided to discontinue production in 2019 and focus on the CX-30 instead.

Used Mazda CX-3 information
Engines and transmissions
Even with only a few model years, Mazda has built the CX-3 with petrol and diesel engines, an automatic or a manual gearbox, and front- or four-wheel drive.
Petrol- 2.0-litre engines generate either 119 or 148bhp.
- Petrol models can reach 60mph in 8.7 seconds with a top speed of 119mph.
- Efficiency is lower with these engines, returning around 45mpg, depending on the configuration.
- 103bhp 1.5-litre was produced until 2018 when it was replaced by a 1.8-litre generating 113bhp.
- Earlier models are more efficient, with a claimed rating of 70.6mpg, with the 113bhp reducing the fuel economy rating to around 54mpg.
Practicality
The Mazda CX-3 is small and agile, but also has enough interior space to make it practical for a growing family.
Interior space- Raised roofline leaves plenty of headroom in both rows of seats.
- Supportive front seats offer a lot of adjustment for a better view.
- Three adults will be cramped in the back seat, but children will fit comfortably.
- Fitting a child seat is simple with the wide opening doors and ISOFIX anchor points.
- 350-litre boot is similar to the Nissan Juke with enough room to hold soft bags or a baby stroller.
- 60:40 split rear seats fold down to increase the space to 1,260 litres.
- Height-adjustable floor has some storage room below it.
Safety
- 2015 Euro NCAP rating is four stars.
- Adult occupant and pedestrian ratings are 85% and 84%, respectively.
- Standard kit includes lane departure warning and automatic emergency braking.
Technology
- 7.0-inch touchscreen display is available with sat nav integration.
- Available head-up display keeps the driver's eyes on the road.
- Clarity of music is enhanced with the available Bose premium sound system.

Used Mazda CX-3 FAQ's
Which is the most popular engine in the Mazda CX-3?
The petrol engines have been the most popular despite having a lower efficiency rating than the diesel. Drivers tend to prefer the acceleration of the petrol engines, and used examples are cheaper to buy, too.
Which are the most popular model variants?
Mazda has offered the CX-3 in several models, including the SE Nav+, SE L Nav+, Sport Nav+ and GT Sport. Of these variants, the Sport Nav+ has been the most popular with its adaptive LED headlights, keyless entry, 18-inch alloy wheels, half-leather sports seats, front parking sensors, head-up display and premium Bose sound system.
What optional extras should I look out for?
Customers should look out for available red leather seats, which provide a sporty appearance, and fog lights for improved visibility. Tinted windows offer more privacy and heated front seats are a good choice for those driving on cold mornings.
Is the Mazda CX-3 a good family car?
Yes, the CX-3 is a compact crossover, but there's plenty of room in the back seat for children. The vehicle also features a decent amount of boot space to carry a few soft bags or a small suitcase.
Is there a hybrid version of the Mazda CX-3?
No, before it was discontinued in 2019, Mazda had not offered a hybrid model. Instead, the carmaker built petrol and diesel engines. The earlier diesel models are more efficient, with a claimed rating of 70.6mpg.
Is the Mazda CX-3 available as an automatic?
Yes, but the automatic transmission models aren't nearly as popular as those with a manual gearbox. Customers may still be able to find a used CX-3 with an automatic transmission, but they will most likely have to pay a little more.
Is there a four-wheel drive version available?
Yes, the CX-3 is available with four-wheel drive. The front-wheel drive models are more popular and tend to be cheaper, so customers should consider their needs before making a decision.
