The GLA is nimble and handles well, while the interior is more spacious than it appears. Interior spaceIn 2013, Mercedes-Benz decided to join the compact premium crossover segment by launching the GLA, which at the time was known as the GLA-Class. It was built on the same platform as the A-Class and it borrowed many of the same designs from the rest of the lineup. Now in its second generation, the GLA continues to be upgraded with high-tech equipment, refreshed styling and luxury features so that it remains relevant among discerning used car buyers.
The purpose of the second-generation GLA was to be more of an SUV than a crossover. Mercedes-Benz used the same platform that is currently used by seven other compact models from the lineup, including the GLB and A-Class, but raised the GLA by over 10cm. This newer model includes more headroom and legroom than its predecessor. The brand's Off-Road Engineering Package was also added to every all-wheel drive model, with extra features that helped drivers tackle rough terrain.
A 2023 refresh includes new LED headlights and a redesigned grille with a horizontal slat and three-pointed star badge. The lower bumper now has a bow-tie-type area with side scoops and new wheel designs, enhancing the premium feel from the outside.

As a brand-new model, the GLA was closely related to its siblings, featuring high-end materials, especially in the cabin. The air vents, gauges and displays were identical to other cars in the lineup, but it had 45% more boot space than the A-Class and more than most other cars in this segment.
A 2017 refresh included new daytime running lights and roof rails for holding bikes or a roof box. It also offered numerous engine options, including petrol and diesel units with various power outputs.

There's nearly an equal distribution of petrol and diesel configurations on the used market, proving that all of the engines are popular. While the plug-in hybrid powertrain isn't popular yet in the used market, it's likely to be in the future as more enter the used car market.
Mercedes-Benz currently offers the GLA in several trims: Sport Edition, Sport Executive, AMG Line Executive, AMG Line Premium and AMG Line Premium Plus, with the AMG models available in Premium, Premium Plus and Plus. The AMG Line trims tend to be the most popular as a good middle point between the base models and the AMG lineup.
Customers should look out for optional safety features, such as automatic parking technology. There's also a 360-degree parking camera for added visibility when manoeuvring.
Yes, even though it's a smaller crossover, there's enough interior room for taller adults. We recommend it for a maximum of four adults, with the middle rear seat reserved for a child. The boot space can also be increased by folding down the rear seats.
The newer GLA 250 e hybrid configuration outputs a combined 218bhp. This offers a 0-62mph time of 7.9 seconds, and it can be used to drive up to 43 miles per charge, making it a great choice for short daily trips.
Mercedes-Benz offered both an automatic and manual gearbox with select engines through the two generations of the GLA. The automatic is much more popular and easier to find among used models.
The Mercedes-Benz GLA has come standard with front-wheel drive, but some models included four-wheel drive. The 4MATIC all-wheel drive system is slightly less popular among used cars, but there are plenty out there to choose from.
