Engines and transmissions

The HR-V offers many options, including hybrid, diesel and petrol engines with automatic and manual transmissions and front- or four-wheel drive.

Petrol

Only new model remaining is a self-charging hybrid with a 1.5-litre petrol and two electric motors with a combined output of 129bhp for a 10.6-second 0-62mph time and efficiency of 52.3mpg with 122g/km of CO2 emissions.
Second-generation models included a 1.5-litre i-VTEC that generated 128bhp and achieved an efficiency rating of around 50mpg.
Sport models turboboosted the 1.5-litre engine to produce 179bhp, but reduced the fuel economy rating to 42.2mpg.

Diesel

Second-generation 1.6-litre i-DTEC engine had an output of 118bhp and returned more than 70mpg, with CO2 emissions at 104g/km.

Practicality

The Honda HR-V isn't a full-size SUV, but is suitable for families with children, offering comfortable seating and a decent amount of boot space.

Interior space

Large side windows give the cabin an airy, spacious feel.
Rear knee and legroom are ample, even for taller passengers.
Rear middle seat sits higher, making it best suited for a child.
Back doors open wide enough to get child seats inside, and they can be attached with the ISOFIX mounting points.

Boot space

335-litre boot is shaped well with a flush sill (448 litres in previous generation).
60:40 split folding rear seats create a completely flat boot floor and more carrying room.
Available boot load cover folds up when it's not in use.

Bodystyles

First generation started with a three-door model that was discontinued in 2001.
Shortly after its introduction, the HR-V lineup expanded to include a five-door bodystyle that remains today.

Safety

Four-star rating from 2022 Euro NCAP testing.
All four tests (adult occupant, child occupant, vulnerable road users and safety assist) resulted in ratings above 70%, with adult occupant given the highest rating of 82%.
Standard kit includes six airbags, forward collision warning, autonomous emergency braking and lane keep assist.

Technology

9.0-inch infotainment touchscreen display sits high up on the dashboard.
A compatible phone can be connected with Android Auto or wireless Apple CarPlay.
Satnav is available to use with the infotainment system.
