Engines and transmissions

The Mercedes-Benz B-Class is offered with petrol, diesel, hybrid and electric engines. Automatic and manual gearboxes have been available, but most models come with front-wheel drive.

Electric

B 250 E, known as Electric Drive, uses a 178bhp electric motor to drive the front wheels with a 28kWh battery.
Driving range per charge is up to 142 miles.
Charges from empty in as little as three hours with a three-phase charger.

Petrol

B 200 outputs 160bhp for a 7.9-second 0-60mph time and an efficiency rating of up to 46.3mpg.
Older B 180 creates 120bhp, offering a 0-60mph time of 8.7 seconds and an efficiency rating starting from 41mpg.
B 250 e plug-in hybrid provides 214bhp.

Diesel

B 200 D has a 2.0-litre engine to make 147bhp, offering a 0-60mph time of 8 seconds and efficiency at up to 57.7mpg.
Older B 180 D uses the 1.5-litre motor to create 107bhp, allowing for efficiency ranging between 62 and 78mpg.
Older B 220 D has been a top diesel performer with a 175bhp 2.1-litre engine and is the only one offered with all-wheel drive.

Because the B-Class is an MPV, it's more economical and practical than a typical SUV, making it a great option for daily driving.

Interior space

Four seats provide sufficient legroom and headroom for adults.
Middle rear seat is best suited for a child.
Available sliding rear bench makes the cabin space customisable.

Boot space

455-litre boot is substantial, considering the MPV's smaller size.
Plug-in hybrid variant cuts boot size down to 420 litres.
Folding the rear seats flat gives access to 1,505 litres.
Electric tailgate makes it easier to access the boot.

Different generations of used Mercedes-Benz B-Class

Mercedes-Benz introduced the B-Class in 2005 as a small MPV sharing much of the same equipment as the A-Class. Since its debut, Mercedes-Benz has released three generations, each with upgraded technology and power options, ensuring that the lineup remains as efficient as possible while giving drivers a luxurious experience.

Third Generation (2019 to 2019)

The B-Class continued impressing with its swept-back headlights and a centre grille choice of either a 3D mesh or two-slat design. Even though it's a smaller vehicle, the unique design helps to give it the same stance as an MPV while remaining sporty. An EV option was also released, ensuring that Mercedes-Benz kept moving in the direction of electrification.

For 2022, a refreshed version hit the roads with a new headlight design and optional LEDs. The cabin looked mostly the same except for the available flat-bottom steering wheel and a larger infotainment system.

Second Generation (2012 to 2019)

The main changes to the second generation vehicles took place inside the cabin. A new floating design was released for the infotainment system, which gave it a new appeal. Some of the interior materials were also upgraded to ensure that it had an upmarket feel.

A refreshed version arrived in 2014, meaning that the MPV met the latest emissions standards. Exterior changes included a new bumper with a wider cooling area and LED daytime running lights. A new AMG Line trim level added a sportier bumper with a piano black grille.
